Using discharge ink for discharge printing on polyester shirts actually produces very unique results. The color of the polyester will determine the finished look, but if you are aware of the results you can achieve, you can use discharge printing on polyester to your advantage to get the look you love!
Here’s a photo of the same red discharge ink on 3 different shirts. You can see that even though we used the exact same ink on all the garments, the fabric played a huge role in the outcome.
- Top left: red discharge on a black AA2001 (100% cotton) - there is no polyester in this shirt, thus producing a bright red! This is typically the case with most 100% cotton shirts. There are a few colors that do not discharge well like red and royal blue.
- Top right: red discharge on a black AABB401 (poly/cotton blend) - there is polyester in this shirt and it happens to be black, so that’s why it’s producing a more worn look. This is a GREAT option if you are wanting a vintage looking shirt without the bright colors.
- Bottom: red discharge on a heather black AABB401 (poly/cotton blend) - there is polyester in this shirt and it happens to be white, so it’s producing a pretty solid bright red with a slight heathered look.
